While My Brother wants these birds, he has already stolen every breed my Mom has brought home. This year, Mom’s friend brought her home a wonderful Pair of White Laced Red Cornish Bantams and she says she will not share these cuties. They are the friendliest, fattest, cutest and tamest bantams on our property! They will jump right out of their home to visit with you. But don’t let their size fool you, it’s like a bowling ball landing in your lap!

The Cornish, known as the Indian Game in its native country of Cornwall in England, United Kingdom, is a breed of chicken. Cornish chickens, as well as crosses of Cornish’s, are the most-used breed in the chicken meat industry. They are heavy, muscular birds that lay brown eggs and require little feed if allowed free range. Ever tried a Cornish Game Hen?

It is a large, stocky breed, and is often crossed with other breeds to enhance meat production. The Indian game, also known as Cornish, is sometimes called the bulldog among chickens; you can actually see the roast chicken shape in it. It was created because people wanted to cross the Asian game breeds with old English game to create a fantastic fighter. However what they got (though not the right build for fighting) was a fantastic meat bird.

CornishMom would never eat or fight her little fat Buddies. We just show them. Being of hard feather, they require a warmer area and extra maintenance to keep their feathers in show condition. Being “wide loads” they require more room than most bantams and can often have hip problems. Being of fighting origins, the roosters can be aggressive. All in all, this is not the chicken for the beginner. But if you are interested in Cornish Games Bantams, please do not hesitate to contact My Mom about her Peeps.
